Dear Fellow Members of the English Department:

As an adjunct who naturally would like to be a full-time Lecturer, I nevertheless try to remain objective in examining the pros and cons of the Lectureship proposal. It seems to me that this program will enhance pedagogy in our Department, particularly in Composition and Rhetoric. If the program is carried out in such a manner that all teachers--full-time and part-time--are encouraged to attend workshops, classes, talks concerning pedagogical matters, then our Department will be graced with the spirit of community, not cursed with the specter of ghettoization. The presentation given on Friday, 9/19 by Professor Kimberly Helmer on pedagogy in a borderlands high school was a wonderful example of such spirit.
